Google announced that as of the 21st of this month, mobile usability will be a major ranking signal throughout mobile search results. This algorithm update will affect all the websites worldwide and according to the search engine it will have a “significant” impact. It doesn’t come as a surprise considering that Google first motivation is to provide the best user experience and as everyone knows navigating through a non-mobile friendly website can be very frustrating. That said though, there are other financial incentives for Google to roll out this change. So how to find out if your website is mobile ready? You would have already noticed in the mobile search results, the label “mobile-friendly”. Simply search for your website name on your smartphone and check if the label is appearing alongside your site.
Another efficient way to make sure your website is mobile ready is to use the “Mobile-Friendly Test” tool introduced by Google. You can check each page individually.
Even though you've passed the first test, it’s important to dig deeper in the analysis and identify potential issues with your mobile site that could affect the mobile SEO performance. This involves reviewing the page loading speed, the mobile usability and crawling errors. For more information on how to ensure your mobile site is optimised in time for the 21st of April 2015, contact the team at Bang Online Marketing.
